MOVIE REVIEW: THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016)

There’s a lot of amazing movies coming out in 2016 so next years Oscar’s should be an interesting one.

Disney has been on a roll lately, remaking classics into glorious live action films. The most recent, The Jungle Book. As always, the scenery and visual affects were absolutely incredible. Disney consistently nails this aspect of their live action movies, i.e; Maleficent, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland. The cast and voice acting was so spot on. Bill Murray as Baloo was phenomenal.  Idris Elba as Shere Khan was the perfect villain. Christopher Walken was the ideal King Louie. Ben Kingsley’s warm vocals was the best match for the protector, Bagheera. And of course The Jungle Book introduced new comer Neel Sethi as Mowgli, the man cub. I wasn’t 100% sold on Scarlet Johansson as Kaa but not because of her voice but more because of the way she spoke, first not slurring her S’s and then beginning to before Baloo enters. It was the perfect mixture of adventure and thrills, hilarity and warmth.  The wolf pups filled my heart, Baloo had me chuckling away and Mowgli’s bravery left me on the edge of my seat. And of course it would’t be The Jungle Book without “Bare Necessities”. I was a little confused as to why some of the animals spoke english and some didn’t, like why was King Louie the only monkey to speak english? Overall, amazing movie.

So I leave you with these questions, is there actually a monkey species as big as King Louie? And, is that actually how big a panther would be in scale to a man cub?

5/5 Stars
